The definitive 10.6 gripery
From Merlin Mann. It’s true, 10.6 breaks some stuff. I just discovered the whole CS3 incompatibility thing which ostensibly won’t be fixed unless you shell out $200 for the upgrade.
The problem was the branding. Snow Leopard was a “bug fix” update. But read the Ars review. It’s actually longer than the 10.4 or the 10.5 review at 24 pages. A lot of stuff was changed under the hood. PLUS there are entirely new APIs. That means 1.0 bugs, and that means stuff-that-isn’t-so-old breaking.
Part of Apple’s advantage is also its problem: everyone updates. There’s lots of day 1 buyers out there. Especially with this kind of branding.
