I had watched this commercial about ten times in a row on Hulu (they tend to repeat the same ads) before I realized it contained a great truth. Protesting and political idealism in the younger crowd are often less a matter of principle than that of signaling and mating rituals.
Also, it is inappropriate to explicitly signal sex as the intended end but appropriate to veil that with other “honorable” intentions.
